week4, practical 4 and 5
I have started to work on my UIR assignment 1 this week. The topic which I had chosen for the assignment was discussing the impact of drugs abuse on youths.I will use three different search facilities to do the research on this topic and then do the comparison among them. Lastly, I need to find out which one is the most effective facility for helping me to find the information.
I had chosen Google from search engines,IxQuick from meta search engines and Yahoo from subject directories to do the comparsion.I used "impact of teenage drug abuse" as keywords in those selected search facilities.Next,I will list what i had found out below and some comments on how i felt when i was using them.
Search Engine(Google):

There are totally 1,780,000 results of the topic. Information can obtain from various websites, like discuss forum, essay or documents which include anyone one keywords inside the website. However, information tend too many to select which one is useful. Furthermore, some of the results are not relate to what I am going to look for.
Meta Search Engine(IxQuick): http://www.antidrug.health.am/news/english/addiction/2228/
There are 38 unique top-ten pages selected from at least 33,514,880 matching results. Results are more than what I have obtained from Google. This search facility is transmit search terms simultaneously to several search engines. And results tend to more accurate.
Subject Directory(Yahoo): http://www.antidrug.health.am/news/english/addiction/2228/
There are 1,440,000 results relating to what I want to look for.The result is the least comparing to the other two search facilities. The website that I had found out from it is atually same as the one found from IxQuick. However, it is ranked at fifth in Yahoo but at first in IxQuick.
Overall,I think the IxQuick search engine seems is more useful than the other two search facilities as it ranks the relevant result correctly and information of the websites are useful too.
